Mario Lavista

Born in Mexico City, Mario Lavista studied in Mexico with Carlos Chavez and Rodolfo Halffter, and in Paris with Henri Pousseur, Nadia Boulanger and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Since 1998, Lavista has been a member of the
prestigious EI Colegio Nacional. He has taught in Mexico and at the University of Chicago, Cornell, the University of California San Diego, Indiana University and McGill University. His range of experience includes forming Quanta: an improvisational group, working in the electronic music studio of radio and television in Japan, composing film scores, and writing for extended techiniques. He has taught in Mexico and abroad, especially in North American institutions, including the University of Chicago, Cornell University, the University of California San Diego, Indiana University and McGill University. Quintet of the Americas has performed his Cinco danzas breves, and Marsias and is thrilled to have successfully commissioned Mario for the nonet.
